About the videopoem “Love Mykolaiv if you dare”
The film introduces viewers to the architecture and the ‘peculiarities’ of life in Mykolaiv. Angie Bogachenko says: “We love our city, but over the years it loses shape. How can it be corrected? Imagine that you found a magic music box, which is able to change any of the drawbacks.”

Andrukhovich «Concerning form»

The sense of form or rather the lack of it – that’s the name of all our disasters. We can’t and we don’t want to make an artistic work out of our life. Our poverty is not the explanation or justification in this case, but the consequence. We can’t coexist with birds, flowers and Sculptures. Our monuments resemble idols that are evil and blood-thirsty, and the rulers that we’ve chosen are some criminal scoundrels. Our houses, gardens and squares (not mentioning factories, stations, and airports) are affected with grievous sin of shapelessness. All that our eye can still gaze at is left by someone else, but we have neglected and profaned it.

We cannot have a good design, for good design is also heredity, it’s the continuation of landscape.

We cannot have good theatre, cinema, circus, as well as many other things that demand the love of form, absolute sense of it. By the way, how few poets we have, that can find the accurate and rich rhyme! That’s because we don’t love our language. Our articulation and intonation are bad. Our actors are fake from the first sound. Words just gurgle out of us – such an unintelligible mutter, that hardly has any sensitive nerve.

There’s something we’ve lost forever, even if we had it someday.

But what should we do (if there’s a sense to do anything)? What should we start with?

You’ll laugh but I would say this way: teach pupils to distinguish between sonnets and octaves, between masculine and feminine rhymes, between interrogative and exclamatory sentences.

Angie Bogachenko is an illustrator, designer, filmmaker and essayist. She was born in Donetsk, grew up in Mykolaiv and currently lives in Kiev.
Angie participated and won prizes at the following international festivals: CYCLOP, ZEBRA, MOLODIST, the 4th Ó Bhéal Poetry-Film Competition (2015), «Liberated Words», “Rabbit Heart”, “DoctorClip” etc.

Poet’s BIO:
Yurii Ihorovych Andrukhovych (Ukrainian: Юрій Ігорович Андрухович) is a Ukrainian prose writer, poet, essayist, and translator. Andrukhovych was born March 13, 1960 in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. In 1985 he co-founded the Bu-Ba-Bu poetic group.

Андрухович «Про форму»
Відчуття форми, а точніше його брак – ось назва всіх наших нещасть. Ми не
вміємо й не хочемо робити з життя мистецький твір. Наша бідність – тут не
виправдання й не пояснення, а швидше наслідок. Ми не вміємо співіснувати з
птахами, квітами і Скульптурами. Наші пам’ятники нагадують злих
кровожерних ідолів, а обрані нами правителі – кримінальних мерзотників.
Наші будинки, сади, площі (я вже не кажу: заводи, вокзали, летовища)
вражені тяжким гріхом безформності. Усе, на чому ще може спинитися око, –
полишене не нами, але нами занедбане і осквернене.

У нас не може бути доброго дизайну, адже добрий дизайн – це теж
спадковість, це продовження ландшафту.

У нас не може бути доброго театру, кіно, цирку. Як і багатьох інших речей,
котрі надто вимагають любити форму, відчувати її абсолютно. А нам завжди
натякали, що слід зневажати форму. До речі, як мало в нас поетів, котрі
вміють знаходити точні й багаті рими! Бо ми не любимо своєї мови. Погано
артикулюємо, інтонуємо. Наші актори фальшиві з першого звуку. Слова просто
вибулькують з нас – таке собі напіврозбірливе бубоніння, в якому відсутній
бодай один чутливий нерв.

Щось ми втратили, здається, назавжди. Навіть, якщо мали колись.

Але що робити? Якщо є сенс щось робити. З чого почати?

Ви будете сміятись, але я скажу так: навчити школярів відрізняти сонети
від октав. Окситонні рими від парокситонних. Питальне речення від
окличного.
