THOSE DRAWN ALIVE
”Winter was approaching, that was horrific ”
Timo K. Mukka
—
Here stepped the elephants and a black family /
/ faces were smashed / fingers were smashed /
objects were instantly displaced by cracking light /
thin girls draw the center circle /
pitch-black shadows of the clouds / warp the sides of the cars /
// Lee Van Cleef is coming //
/ clubs of high noon fall down /
/ those drawn alive /
lean on the buildings
moments of evening / lined up by now /
anointed with dusk
despots try to lure people to their bunches /
/ vouchers lay everywhere /
The voice of Ella Eronen plunges from the speakers
“ We don’t negotiate with the terrorists “ say the traffic lights
underwater mills grind
unlit evening
matchstick-people scratch themselves visible /
I’m waiting for the evening
and the movie

BIO
Jukka-Pekka Jalovaara
I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, Finland in 1997 – having main interest in sculpture. After school I noticed that my focus of doing art moved towards moving image. For me, there was no going back. Travelling first in the world of physical sculptures, I started the journey of mental sculptures in light and shadows. Having background in sculptures was no problem at all – on the contrary. As Andrei Tarkovsky has said:”Doing cinema is sculpting time “.
Process notes:
Another note from Andrej Tarkovsky : “The Only possible way to approach film is through poetic vision ”I myself have a very short note about the process of doing shortfilm: I actually don’t remember which came first – words or visual thema – it might have been single word then accompanying few screens. I can only say that words and pictures followed each other – then it was finished.
